A Manhattan-based aspiring essayist, stuck between an MFA program and figuring out how to keep her Studio while keeping the dream alive, had altogether too much time on her hand and never enough. Then the gin ran out and thus East Second was born. With the help of a fellow MFA partner in crime and out of sheer necessity or longing for a hub of creativity that highlights all things of the literary culture and community. Writers and work alike.
From the inspiring to the humorous, to the depressing, to the down and dirty we want it all. East Second will strive to be the window display that collects and showcases all the letters of our vibrant community of writers: the things they love, the things they hate, the people they are, the space they live in, the things they are doing, the thoughts they have, and so on.
We’d like to keep it in that lit sphere and also ask that you keep it to nonfiction. Being experimental is great but we ask that you keep it in that realm and that your submissions are between 500 – 1500 words. As of now there is no compensation, the only payoff is being a part of this hopefully wonderful thing and contributing to your community.
Please send submissions to firstname.lastname@example.org
We can’t wait to see what you have in store for us!
